Why was he carrying a knife? why was he so angry? what gave him the confidence to carry out such a malicious act so brazenly in front of everyone? Something is seriously wrong with this situation. Children from the western world are so spoilt, they have everything they could want and still want more. They have access to so much material and so many opportunities. Many children in Africa have nothing in comparison. If only these youths knew how lucky they really are.
They're too easily influenced by their peer groups, TV, music videos, video games, films, drugs, alcohol and dysfunctional parents. (Not all parents are dysfunctional off course.)
Children are bombarded constantly with images of violence, on their TV screens, in video games, in music videos and violence and gang culture is often glorified and praised.
Education and respect starts within the home from a very early age. The parents are the first teachers for a child. Children are like sponges, they absorb everything from an early age and the parents have a duty of care to be responsible as to what they expose their children to from an early age, how they raise them etc.
Situations like this are horrifying. This boy had his whole life ahead of him. Not only has he now ruined his entire life and indeed his family's life, he has tragically ruined the life of the innocent victim's family who will now have to live with this tragedy forever. And for what ..... a moment of madness? a moment of anger? a moment of rage?
