I had mixed feelings about the whole idea of having a video interview. I found it odd, on the one hand it's nice that you can have an interview from the comfort of your own home ....IF off course you have a camera on your pc or laptop!... on the other hand my mind made me think that this was a blatant discriminating way to weed out the people that didn't " fit their criteria physically". As in if your face doesn't fit, then they won't take you on even if your full of valuable experiences that they as an organisation would benefit from... So, they want to see you first before inviting you down? Why?
Fair enough, this is a new age way to conduct interviews .... BUT the email she received was just plain weird!! they even go so far as to tell you where you can buy a camera if you haven't already got one.. ?!
If they want to judge people based upon their looks, the laptop cameras don't often do people any justice anyway, they would be better off seeing them in person and making their judgement that way. Which leads me to mention that it's funny how in retail they want you to look a certain way. Are you not just selling their products? How good do you need to look in actual fact? ... it's not as if your modelling. Very strange.
Check out the email she received below:
